The NASDU National Award in Dog Handling Safety Techniques Course aims to provide the learner with basic skills, knowledge and understanding in the safe handling of dogs. The programme is a mixture of theory and practical tuition for which all assessment criteria must be met. There is no prior learning required to undertake this course. The course consists of 2.5 days of which is the first part of the 7 day General Purpose Security Dog Handlers Course. The course duration is a minimum of 15 Guided Learning Hours. As this award does not involve any operational training you may bring a dog of your choice or we can loan you a dog for the course duration.

The Award has been developed to meet the needs of civilian dog owners, Kennel staff and dog related workers requiring basic safe handling techniques. Would also suit those with no previous experience working towards enrolling on a detection dog handlers course.

This Award does not entitle the learner to work as a Security Dog Handler however the successful learner can proceed into the EDI Level 2 Award for General Purpose Security Dog Handlers.

The assessment shall be carried out by an Approved NASDU Trainer/Instructor and internally moderated by NASDU.
